Helping Make the Holidays Bright for Youth

Updated on January 15, 2020

Each year, Pivot hosts a holiday party for our clients. We know that because of circumstances in their lives, this may be the only party many of them attend or the only opportunity they have to receive gifts.

Many of the youth we serve don’t have happy memories of the holidays or family traditions they look forward to each year. They may spend these significant days alone or feeling they have nothing to celebrate.

We believe they can find joy in the holidays and we plan a party each year to help them relax and enjoy some of the season for at least an afternoon. Pivot team members work for weeks planning every detail of the event to ensure it’s a wonderful experience for all who attend.

And the party is truly a celebration! We include fun and games, delicious food including plenty of holiday cookies, pictures with friends and the opportunity to truly enjoy the time.  The youth are thankful for the attention and for the gifts they receive.

Prior to the event, each client is given an opportunity to fill out a wish list. They can list needs and/or wants – toys, household items, items to nurture their interests and talents. Some dream big and some are practical – after going without, things like a vacuum might seem like a luxury. Or they may think they don’t deserve the latest thing that peers have, so they don’t ask for much.

Each youth receives gifts selected just for them. Things they asked for, in their size and preference. They feel special and valued.

“Thank you Pivot for your service and the great things you have done for me. I thank you for today’s event and the gifts. You have helped me a lot, thank you!” – Amy

“I am so thankful for all the people at Pivot. You guys have really made so much possible for me and given me so much hope and inspiration. Hopefully someday I can give to the community like you do.” – Michaela

So many people and groups help fill these wishes – by shopping directly for youth, by supporting us financially, by volunteering their time and talents before and during the event. We could not make it special without their help!

Our Teen Service Board really embraces the idea of supporting other youth. From spending time picking out the perfect gifts for their peers (even though they don’t know them personally) to wrapping gifts and asking their friends and family to donate money or resources, they really are so thoughtful throughout the whole planning process.

We’d also like to thank some amazing people who helped ensure that youth served by Pivot have happy holidays. We are so grateful for your support and all you do to positively impact these young lives.

An anonymous donor who provided coats for each youth in their size and preferred style, an anonymous donor who provided $50 gift for each youth, Beth and Shane Autry, Kathy Brown, Renee Collie, Nikki Eller, Harding Charter Prep, Jennifer and Michael Hast, Keller Williams Platinum, Kam’s Kookery, Andrea Kissinger, Nicole LePak, Chuck Musgrave, Pivot Teen Service Board (and those who support them), RMS, Smiletime Photography, TFCU and Zeta Tau Alpha OKC Alumnae.

Thank you for helping us make their season bright and happy! We are looking forward to serving even more youth in 2020 and being a force for good in their lives.
